[Workplace 1419] Access to Connecticut's model programsBrian, Dr Donna J G djgbrian at utk.eduFri Jun 13 22:46:11 EDT 2008
Hi Maureen, I'm envious of the obviously well-functioning state-wide efforts to make the Workforce Investment Boards work the way they were intended. I'm guessing you had some good involvement even before the official Workforce Investment Boards were established. When you have a little time, I would like to hear some of the history of how all this cooperative effort came about. Thank you for your offer to share these model workforce education model programs that you have helped develop! I am sure there would be interest among at least some list members in Connecticut's workforce education model programs. Are they online? If not, are they in electronic format so that they could be forwarded to those who would like to see them? Since we can't send attachments on discussion list messages, they would have to be sent as an attachment individually to those who requested them. I would be happy to forward them individually off list, if they are available electronically and you would send them to me. Otherwise, could you provide your email address so that list members can contact you directly off list? Also could you tell us how you worked with the DOL to obtain the 21st Century dollars? I assume this was a grant you applied for? Your post just piques our interest in the details of your work and Connecticut's success! We have been meeting on a regular basis at the statewide level to create a system for the provision of workforce education services for employers. Regional groups with similar membership replicate the statewide model and meet as well to develop local and regional relationships among partners. The WIBs often utilize the services of adult education providers to skill up their WIA eligible customers and also serve as brokers to deliver workforce education to Connecticut businesses. A very interesting model has been utilized in a number of CT hospitals where adult education offers basic skills training which is connected to an on-line learning model that provides health care certifications. We have worked with the Department of Labor to access 21st Century dollars to develop and deliver a number of workforce education model programs which I would be happy to share if anyone is interested. Have a happy weekend. ________________________________ -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
