[Workplace 1418] Re: career development, workforce edWagner, Maureen Maureen.Wagner at po.state.ct.usFri Jun 13 16:22:16 EDT 2008
Connecticut has a Workforce Coordinating Committee on which a workforce investment board member from each region sits with other workforce development professionals representing various organizations including the Departments of Labor, Education and Economic and Community Development; adult education providers; the Connecticut Business and Industry Association; the Career and Technical high school system; and the community college system. We have been meeting on a regular basis at the statewide level to create a system for the provision of workforce education services for employers. Regional groups with similar membership replicate the statewide model and meet as well to develop local and regional relationships among partners. The WIBs often utilize the services of adult education providers to skill up their WIA eligible customers and also serve as brokers to deliver workforce education to Connecticut businesses. A very interesting model has been utilized in a number of CT hospitals where adult education offers basic skills training which is connected to an on-line learning model that provides health care certifications. We have worked with the Department of Labor to access 21st Century dollars to develop and deliver a number of workforce education model programs which I would be happy to share if anyone is interested. Have a happy weekend. ________________________________ From: workplace-bounces at nifl.gov [mailto:workplace-bounces at nifl.gov] On Behalf Of Brian, Dr Donna J G Sent: Friday, June 13, 2008 2:26 PM To: The Workplace Literacy Discussion List Subject: [Workplace 1416] Re: career development, workforce ed Thanks for sharing, Susan. It seems to me that we should be trying to be more aware with what is going on with Workforce Boards with an eye to increasing our opportunities for collaboration and cooperation with their efforts. Of course, it should be happening the other way around too, with workforce boards looking to us for our expertise and collaboration. I'd be really interested in any success stories from discussion list members about their collaborations with workforce boards. Anyone?
