I completely agree with Wendy Jackson's response. Sometimes we have to think beyond the statistical data that is given to us and look at results we see with our very own eyes. I also volunteer at a shelter for recovering drug addicts (Atlanta Union Mission). I teach a GED course to adult men who plan on taking the test in the near future. As Wendy stated previously, the men I see who continue the life improvement path outweighs those who do not. When I see my students pass a section of the GED test or even graduate from the program, I know there is hope and no research data can take their joy away. We must continue to work and volunteer in our communities and work with people who are different from us regardless of their past experiences.
