After reading the article, I did some web searches to see what else I could find on the subject of Internet access at public libraries. I found research studies and anti-filtering (or censor-ware, as it is also known) advocacy sites, in addition to Internet usage statistics from libraries which demonstrate that, in fact, the majority of patrons using the Internet at public libraries with no filtering software are NOT visiting porn or other "inappropriate" web sites. Most patrons, one of the studies found, use library Internet access to check their e-mail. A couple of you have already responded to Jeff's post with your experience developing Acceptable Use Polices related to Internet access. It would be great if we could get a few more of you to add your thoughts and experiences on this issue.
