The Department of American Studies, University of Maryland, College
Park, is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor whose research
focuses on racial identity and consciousness in the Americas,
interrogates intersections between race and other dimensions of
identity, and extends interdisciplinarity.

Candidates with degrees in American Studies and ethnic and race studies
programs are especially encouraged to apply.  We will also consider
candidates from affiliated humanities/social science fields with
interdisciplinary training and research agendas.  Candidates should have
the Ph. D. degree in hand by August 2005.  The University of Maryland is
an AA/EOE employer and encourages applications from racial and ethnic
minorities and women.

Candidates should submit a letter of application, c. v., a one-page
abstract of their current research, a research plan, and arrange for
three letters of recommendation to be sent to:
