Professional Development Specialist (K-3) Responsibilities include developing and delivering professional development including training, technical assistance and coaching in the application of current research in K-3 reading instruction, literacy activities between parents and children, and reading strategies with children to classroom teachers, administrators, and family literacy providers; development of print, web and video material on evidence-based reading instruction and parent engagement in children’s reading acquisition; program development and monitoring. This position requires demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based reading instruction and family literacy, application of reading instruction in K-3 classrooms, knowledge of teaching methodology and adult education practices for developing and implementing training and technical assistance, experience and knowledge of school structure and programs including school change and reform models, excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing, ability to work with members of a team, deal with ambiguity and fast-paced change. Qualifications: A Bachelor’s Degree with a background in reading instruction or related area such as elementary education, child development, language and literacy development, Master’s Degree preferred, and a minimum of three year’s experience in direct classroom teaching in a primary setting, supervision and/or coaching experience in beginning reading, and organization and delivery of professional development.
