I have trouble with the longer 'eeee' sound, since in Spanish there is only one sound. Furthermore, I have a tremendous difficulty distinguishing between ear and year. I usually tell people that I am 38 ears old. I taught ESL for ten ears (years) and Kathleen always said that students would all learn to speak like me. I tried to explained to her that students don't learn accent from their teachers, but rather acquire accents in the communites where they use the L2 and also mix the L2 sounds with L1 sounds. Usually Mexican English L2 speakers will have a Mexican accent if they learn English from an Argentinian or a Noruegian. The same thing for Spaniards, Germans and Italians and Arabs and everyone else.
