Hello. This came to me through TESOL and I hope it is okay to post it. It
seems like a great idea. When the list comes out, I will share it with all
of you who may not be TESOL members. Thanks. Tommy.
Jason Majesky of the TESOL Central Office has asked all of the IS Chairs
if they would post a question on their listservs asking their members the
top- three websites to which they refer students to obtain information.
Many of the students who call him ask for such sites, so he would like to
begin working on a resource site that he/TESOL could direct those students
to. Beginning ESL teachers and even seasoned practitioners could also
obtain lesson plans from the same site.
He writes, "I recall my first year teaching ESL, and how overwhelmed I was
teaching Romeo and Juliet to an ESL population. I went to my advisor and
asked him for help. He directed me to an on-line (FREE) resource site for
Ennglish teachers, where I could download lesson plans, daily objectives,
group work etc. for teaching Shakespeare to an ESL population. This saved
my life!"
So would you please assist Jason in his work of gathering resource sites
in order to build a comprehensive resource data-bank by either posting your
three most recommended sites on this listserv or by emailing Jason directly
by jmajesky@tesol.org. The sites could be subject area oriented (English
literature, Social Studies, etc.) or content oriented (current events,
holidays, environment, etc.) or skill oriented (writing, grammar,
pronunciation, etc.) or more general. Thank you.
